Alterations and extension of a Victorian detached house
The aim of this speculative development was to increase the value of the existing property giving the client a good return on their investment.
The existing kitchen was a small, insular space unsuitable for a six-bedroom home. Through the demolition of the homes rear brick wall and extension of the space a new kitchen diner was created that gave the house a stronger, and more open, connection to theexisting back garden. The structure was designed to keep the rear corner of the extension free of columns so the space would be totally open when the sliding doors was pulled back. This was done without the need for any expensive steelwork by using stressed skin ply beams as an integral part of the extension’s timber structure.
